Benefits of Cordyceps on Human Health

Cordyceps is a traditional herb that has been widely used to revitalise various bodily systems since the olden days. Evidence has shown the effectiveness of cordyceps as a sexual stimulant, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumour agents etc. There are more than 21 clinical journals that support the importance of cordyceps bioactivity in strengthening the immune system, lungs and kidneys. In other words, the synergistic effects of all its components act as our natural protector against many negative elements. Cordyceps is now emerging as an over-the-counter (OTC) herb, making it easier for customers to buy, consume and indulge in its goodness for health.

Immune System

The immunity system functions to maintain health by preventing diseases caused by infection on environmental contaminants. Cordyceps plays a vital part in strengthening our immune system. In several studies, the components of amino acid extracts from cordyceps displayed potent anti-inflammatory activities that are benefeicial to prevent infectious diseases such as fever and flu.
Respiratory System

Everyday humans will breathe approximately 22,000 times to obtain oxygen from air and facilitate the metabolism of the body. However, this oxygen exchange process is frequently impaired by the weakness of the lungs. Researches have found that cordyceps is beneficial to relax the bronchial wall and at the same time, acts as an anti-inflammatory agent. Cordyceps helps to relieve asthma, cough, phlegm and other diseases of the respiratory system. In addition, cordyceps acts naturally to stimulate the secretion of adrenaline in the body that is important in balancing the metabolic rate of the body as well as alleviating stress, eczema and other skin diseases.
Anti-tumour (also known as anti-tumor)

Everyday humans are bombarded with streams of free radicals from various environmental contaminants, the sun rays and imbalanced diet that will ultimately lead to diseases such as cancer. According to experts, everyday has tumour (tumor) cells somewhere in their system, although these sizes may differ from one person to another. It will be detected and diagnosed as cancer only if these tumour cells are more than 2 cm in size. Therefore, the most crucial step is to stop or eliminate the tumour cells before they start to develop. Studies have shown that two main ingredients in cordyceps, namely cordycepin and ergosterol peroxide, can deter the growth of tumour cells. Cordycepin contains 3-deoxyyadenosine that prevents cell mitosis while ergosterol peroxide has been shown to halt cytotoxic activities in tumour cells.
Libido stimulant

Testosterone is the main steroid hormone for male reproductive functions. The level of testosterone hormone is easily affected by problems such as aging and imbalanced nutrition. As a matter of fact, the testosterone secreted from Leydig cells must be regulated by the luteinising hormone (LH). In studies, LH/hCG glycoprotein in cordyceps functions to recognise LH receptor and activate the signal for steroidogenesis, the production of testosterone hormone. In other words, cordyceps helps to regulate male testosterone that in turn contributes to a proactive male sexual health.
